About Calico Kris
I’m a privacy-paranoid tinfoil-hat sort of person, so don’t epect my life story:
- I’m a Linux geek, and I describe myself “hacker” in it’s older, more accurate sense
- Hacker, noun: Someone who is obsessive about computers, who engages in experimentation with computers for self-enrichment, who enjoys pushing computers to their limits and doing new and unexpected things with them, and who enjoys sharing cool and clever things to show off and help out at the same time.
- I use exclusively* Free (as in speech) Software.
- *excepting the Pokémon games and the game consoles need to play them, my one true weakness…
- I am a Pokémaniac, though I haven’t spent as much time with the series as I would like due to the fact that real-life always seems to get in the way.
- Favorite Pokémon: Pikachu
- Favorite Type: Electric
- Favorite Legendary: Tie between Mew, Kyogre, and Tapu Koko
- Least Favorite Pokémon: Giratina
- Least Favorite Type: Tie between Dragon and Fairy
- Least Favorite Legendary: It’s also my least favorite Pokémon 🙂
- Favorite Generation: Tie between 6 and 7
- Favorite Game: Pokémon Yellow
- First Game: Pokémon Red
- Trainer Class: Mystery Man
- My favorite music is by greek-born music artist Yanni, whose musical lineup includes something for everyone. Seriously, if you can listen to all his music and not find at least on thing you like, you’re not human 🙂
- My favorite television series is — can you guess it? — Pokémon! In second place is Doctor Who. I sometimes wish I could find myself a blue police box…
- My favorite movie is the original Ghostbusters. There sure are strange things in my neighborhood!
- My favorite book series is the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. The first book is titled Eragon.
- I am a Pastafarian (no, that’s not a misspelling — that is definitely a P at the start). I take it quite seriously as my religion. And no, I don’t believe in a literal Flying Spaghetti Monster — I do believe in a supreme being, but I consider the name my religion assigns to Him/Her/It to be purely metaphorical, something which I will explore (eventually) in a blog post.
About This Blog
I plan to publish articles and in-depth discussions ranging across all my interests. This will include news in science, technology, Linux and the Open Source community, Pokémon, and anything else that sparks my fancy. I plan to publish articles several times per week, though I don’t intend to follow a specific schedule or frequency — it is basically on an “as I think of it” basis. All articles, unless otherwise stated, will be licenced under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
About The Mascot
The mascot is based on Tux the Linux mascot; specifically, the Tux from Revision 2 of the Crystal icon set, an open source icon set for the Linux desktop. The Crystal icon set is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (abbr. LGPL). The LGPL allows modification and redistribution, provided the that the LGPL also applies to redistributed copies in both modified and unmodified forms.
The Pikachu variant I am using as my mascot can be found here, which credits Roblox user davidstar9.
